{"id":6310,"date":"2023-10-05T19:54:36","date_gmt":"2023-10-05T19:54:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/socentralohio\/?p=6310"},"modified":"2026-04-21T16:41:27","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T16:41:27","slug":"6310","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/centraloh\/2023\/10\/05\/6310\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet Our 2023 Central Ohio Fund-A-Cure Family!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>WE INVITE YOU TO LEARN THE STORY OF THIS YEAR&#8217;S COLUMBUS PROMISE BALL FUND-A-CURE FAMILY<\/strong> &#8211; Meet the Giancola family!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/centraloh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/137\/2023\/10\/Screenshot-2023-10-05-154820.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6312 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/centraloh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/137\/2023\/10\/Screenshot-2023-10-05-154820.png\" alt=\"2023 Central Ohio Breakthrough T1D Fund-A-Cure Family\" width=\"570\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/centraloh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/137\/2023\/10\/Screenshot-2023-10-05-154820.png 570w, https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/centraloh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/137\/2023\/10\/Screenshot-2023-10-05-154820-300x197.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hello!<\/p>\n<p>My name is Meggie Giancola and I am a 37-year-old woman, and I bear many identities. \u00a0I am&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a wife<\/li>\n<li>a mother<\/li>\n<li>a Senior Vice President at a large advertising organization<\/li>\n<li>a friend volunteer<\/li>\n<li>a lover of musical theater<\/li>\n<li>a spinning enthusiast<\/li>\n<li>and much more!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I am also a Type 1 Diabetic. \u00a0Every identity I bear at some point has had risk given my T1D. \u00a0Every identity I bear has also been enhanced or made possible thanks to Breakthrough T1D which is why it\u2019s a true honor to be Breakthrough T1D\u2019s 2023 Fund a Cure Family.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/t1d-basics\/diagnosis\/\">Diagnosed<\/a> at the age of 10 in Columbus, it was a life altering moment for me and my family. \u00a0I was fortunate to have unwavering support from my family and friends, and an incredible medical team at Nationwide Children\u2019s which made me highly engaged in my T1D journey. \u00a0 However, I also experienced the incredible trials of this disease, like having seizures during a sleepover at a friend\u2019s house in middle school and having to figure out where I could hide my pump in my homecoming dress.<\/p>\n<p>Fast forward to adulthood and upon graduating from Miami University, I moved to New York City where I was figuring out Corporate America and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/support-adults\/\">adult life with type 1 diabetes<\/a>. \u00a0It was also at that time I was introduced to Breakthrough T1D. \u00a0From walk teams to research events, my involvement with and my adoration for Breakthrough T1D continued to grow. So much so that in 2016, my husband proposed to me at the NYC <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.breakthrought1d.org\/site\/SPageServer?pagename=walk_homepage\">Breakthrough T1D One Walk<\/a> in front of our team of over 30 family and friends. We were becoming a family, my career was growing, and we also hoped to start a family, and Breakthrough T1D was in the background making every single aspect of my life greater and possible due to their incredible mission of improving the lives of those living with T1D.<\/p>\n<p>Breakthrough T1D \u2013 the community, the medical advancements, the seminars, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/explore-advocacy\/\">advocacy<\/a> &#8211; has been a massive component in allowing me to live a limitless life, as I know it has for so many living with or loving someone with T1D. \u00a0I\u2019m thrilled to be partnering with Breakthrough T1D and spotlighting adults living with T1D, because whether you are a T1D child or parent of a child living with type 1 diabetes, Breakthrough T1D is there for you.
