Mr. Hamilton was chosen for his passionate commitment to Breakthrough T1D\u2019s mission of accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat type 1 diabetes (T1D) and its complications.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Hamilton accepted the opportunity to serve on the Breakthrough T1D Board of Directors for the Greater Connecticut &amp; Western Massachusetts Chapter in July 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am honored to receive this award at the 2023 Breakthrough T1D Promise Ball,\u201d said Hamilton. \u201cAs someone living with T1D, as well as having a daughter with Type 1, Breakthrough T1D is an organization I am proud to support. \u00a0I am deeply moved by the strength of the T1D community as well as those who are directly impacted by the funds raised through this event. The disease occurs when the body\u2019s immune system attacks and destroys the beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin, a hormone essential to turning food into energy. Without insulin, glucose from food stays in the blood, where it can cause serious damage to all of the body\u2019s organ systems. It requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on injected insulin.
