Guest Speaker: Stacey Reicher, ACSW, Social Worker from CCMC will be our April guest speaker:
Topic: T1D and BURNOUT
T1D isn’t just about carb counting, checking BG’s and giving insulin. Diabetes takes an emotional toll as well! It is normal for people who have T1D to sometimes feel that they just want a “break” from the 24/7 demands of this disease! Sometimes kids just don’t feel like bolusing…or changing their sites… or even acknowledging that they have diabetes. It doesn’t mean that they are depressed or lazy, it might just mean that they are tired of doing everything “right” but feeling that they just never seem to have control.
Parents can also feel similarly overwhelmed and fatigued by the constant demands of a complicated and unpredictable disease.
Stacey will discuss burnout and how it affects those with T1D and their caregivers.
Please feel free to bring your child to the program if you feel that he or she might benefit.
Stacey has worked for many years as a social worker in the endocrinology department at CCMC. Countless families and kids have benefited from her insights and expertise in dealing with the complex issues related to T1D.
