The Nevada Chapter of the Breakthrough T1D kicked off what is sure to be the best Walk To Cure Diabetes fundraising event yet with their Team Captains’ Luncheon at the Orleans Hotel on Wednesday.  Host and Breakthrough T1D board member, Mitch Truswell kept things running smoothly as some 200 team members ate, received valuable information regarding both the cause and the strategy to great team-building, and networked.  Featured speaker during lunch was Alexis Newell, who shared her personal story of dealing with the disease in her family as onlookers unanimously related.  After lunch, attendees had access to a blue-ribbon panel, including Breakthrough T1D Executive Director, Colleen Saca, Walk Co-Chairs Tony Twist and Phil Patent, and Youth Ambassador, Michael Falk. The event was closed with a poetry reading by Youth Ambassadors Reed Gialketsis and Emily Isennock.  This year, the Nevada Chapter of Breakthrough T1D has a goal of registering over 200 teams for the November 10th event taking place on the UNLV campus.  Last year’s event included 193 teams and over 4000 participants.  For more information, please  contact the Breakthrough T1D office at 702.732.4795, or online at www.walk.jdrf.org.
