Camper Weekend a Wonderful Experience for 45 T1D’s

On Friday, September, 22nd, forty-five T1D campers from across Arizona arrived at the Triangle Y Ranch in Oracle, AZ to participate in a weekend-long camp.  For many campers, this was their first experience being away from their home.  The weekend flew by as kids enjoyed actives including rock wall climbing, challenge courses, archery, arts and crafts, and team building events.  Friday evening included a campfire and sing-a-long; Saturday night the campers cut loose at a dance!

The goal of camp is for children to develop a sense of independence as they try new adventures away from home.  JDRF’s number one priority is to provide a safe environment for every child.  This would not have been possible without the tremendous support of Breakthrough T1D volunteers!  Our thanks to Dr. Bithika Thompson, Dr. Joel Hahnke who volunteered for the weekend. Completing the medical team were 11 diabetic counselors, volunteers and 5 medical professionals.

The Arizona Chapter is truly grateful to the Ahwatukee chapter of 100 Women Who Care, for providing the grant funding which allowed us to send our T1D’s to camp.  We invite you to peruse the camp album, and remain thankful to the many volunteers who contributed to making this a safe and memorable experience!
