Breakthrough T1D, the leading global type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and advocacy organization, applauds Representatives Diana DeGette (D-CO), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA), Kim Schrier (D-WA), Rob Bresnahan (R-PA), and Angie Craig (D-MN) for introducing the House companion bill to S. 4189, the bipartisan INSULIN Act of 2026. The INSULIN Act is an important step toward making insulin more affordable and accessible for the millions of Americans who rely on it to survive. By capping the cost of this lifesaving drug, the legislation will help remove a barrier of care and ensure that people with diabetes can access the insulin they need to live full lives without having to choose between their medication and other essential expenses.
“For the more than 1.5 million Americans with type one diabetes, insulin access is life-or-death,” said Breakthrough T1D Chief Global Advocacy Officer Lynn Starr. “By capping out-of-pocket cost at $35, the INSULIN Act ensures that people have dependable, affordable access to the insulin they require to live.
We applaud Representatives DeGette, Miller-Meeks, Schrier, Bresnahan, and Craig for introducing the House INSULIN Act and urge their colleagues to stand with them on the side of all those living with T1D. While there is still more work to be done, we are hopeful that, together with the Senate, we will finally have the access to affordable insulin the entire T1D community deserves and depends on.”
