35 Faces of the Breakthrough T1D One Walk: Meet Caden

35 Faces, 35 years of Walking, 35 Reasons to Give

I want people to know that having type 1 diabetes (T1D) isn’t easy and that people with T1D are AWESOME! I was diagnosed with T1D when I was 4 years old, and I haven’t let T1D stop me from being a kid. Every year my family and friends participate in the Athens Breakthrough T1D One Walk. We have raised over $10,000 the past 5 years! I love designing our walk t-shirt every year. Last year the theme was “Building a world without Type 1”. The shirt had awesome Lego mini-figures on it and the words were built with legos! It was so cool! We sell these t-shirts to friends and family to help raise money for our walk team. I also share my story and talk about what a cure means to me. My favorite memory at the Breakthrough T1D One Walk is getting to cut the start line ribbon and winning the t-shirt contest! I wish we would find a cure soon so I wouldn’t have to watch my blood sugar levels and prick my fingers. A cure would mean freedom! Freedom from having to count carbs and watching everything I eat. It would give me the freedom just to be a normal kid. If you don’t have a walk team, you can join mine or start your own! Raising awareness and fundraising is the best way to spread the word about T1D and the Breakthrough T1D One Walk.
