35 Faces of the Breakthrough T1D One Walk: Meet Madelyn
in Fundraising

35 Faces, 35 years of Walking, 35 Reasons to Give
My name is Madelyn, I am 12 years old, and I love to compete in beauty pageants. Being in the spotlight and feeling beautiful takes my mind off of the daily struggle of T1D. I was diagnosed at 6 and have had over 11,000 insulin shots so far in my lifetime. There are some days when I feel like any other normal kid, there are many days when I wish I knew what a normal kid felt like. I am walking and asking people to donate so that all of us with T1D can one day be free from this disease. My team name is Madelyn’s Mission Warriors and this is our first walk. So far we have raised about $1,000. Our favorite way of gaining donations is by talking to local businesses. My family and friends will be walking with me this year. My best friend Emily and teacher, Mrs. Townsend are also going to be walking with us. We are walking to support finding a cure for T1D. Diabetes is an everyday burden. There are no breaks with T1D. It is not caused by something I have done wrong or an unhealthy lifestyle. There are no words to describe how wonderful life would be without T1D! I am excited to walk this year and create new memories with my family and friends. The Breakthrough T1D One Walk is definitely the start of a new tradition for us.
Please consider supporting Madelyn’s fundraising efforts by donating to her Breakthrough T1D One Walk team here.
