Hi, my name is Ethan, and I am 17 years old. I have had Type 1 Diabetes<\/a> since I was 2 \u00bd years old. I don\u2019t remember life without Type 1. To manage my diabetes, I wear a CGM<\/a> and an insulin pump, and I always have a bag of supplies with me. Some of my friends even keep a supply of granola bars and juices at their houses in case I am low.<\/p>\n

I was fortunate to have a good friend with Type 1 throughout elementary and middle school. We would visit the school nurse together and help each other out. In 2020, my younger brother, Gabriel, \u00a0who was nine years old at the time, was also diagnosed with Type 1<\/a>. It was a difficult time for my family, but my brother was a pro at managing his blood sugar after watching me for so many years. My brother and I share supplies and support one another; it is nice to have someone around who knows what you are going through.<\/p>\n

I love soccer and have been playing since I was five. My high school team just won the state championship, and I plan to play in college next year. Managing my blood sugars while training or playing in a game can be challenging, but I have developed a routine to make it easier. I also make an extra effort to eat healthy and keep my body in good shape.<\/p>\n

I have been involved with Breakthrough T1D for many years. In 2015, I was a Children\u2019s Congress<\/a> delegate. That was a fantastic experience. It was nice to meet so many other kids with Type 1 and to see the government working hard to make life easier for those with diabetes. I have also enjoyed volunteering at the yearly Breakthrough T1D Galas, participating in the One Walk, and helping my dad raise money when he ran the NYC marathon for Breakthrough T1D.<\/p>\n

Diabetes can be extremely challenging, but I am fortunate to have a great support system, the latest technology, and an excellent healthcare team.<\/p>\n

I am encouraged by the work that Breakthrough T1D<\/a> is doing, and I hope there will be a cure in my lifetime.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
