data-contrast=\"auto\">Founded in 1999\u2014and inspired by our chapter\u2019s own <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Thom Solo<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> when he was 9\u2014Children\u2019s Congress is one of the key drivers that advances Breakthrough T1D\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/explore-advocacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Advocacy<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> agenda. This event typically happens every other year, but it was canceled in 2021 due to COVID-19.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/news-and-updates\/meet-natalie-stanback-jdrf-2023-childrens-congress-chair\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Natalie Stanback<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, Breakthrough T1D 2023 Children\u2019s Congress Chair, along with her daughter, Nadia, who was a Breakthrough T1D 2019 Children\u2019s Congress delegate, and her husband, Isaiah, a former NFL wide receiver, will lead 165 delegates from all 50 states, along with five countries, to tell Congress what it\u2019s like to live with T1D, and what they need to do to help.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This year, the focus will be on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/explore-advocacy\/special-diabetes-program\/\">Special Diabetes Program<\/a> (SDP). This program currently provides $150 million annually to T1D research through the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the country\u2019s premier medical research agency. The SDP also complements <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/explore-research\/\">Breakthrough T1D\u2019s research efforts<\/a>, allowing Breakthrough T1D and the NIH to collaborate to advance T1D research as quickly as possible. This program is set to expire in September and renewing it is Breakthrough T1D\u2019s biggest priority\u2014and the #1 job for the delegates.
