His family had worked for many years fundraising for JDRF through AJs Avengers, and the Falmouth Road Race was an opportunity for me to get involved!<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXO235080384 BCX0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Is this your first time running the Falmouth Road Race:<\/span>\u00a0No, 4th year<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What are you are most looking forward to at the 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race:<\/span>\u00a0I am excited to help support Breakthrough T1D, meet some of my other teammates and cannot wait for all the energy in Falmouth on race day!<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What are you most nervous about:<\/span>\u00a0Weather!<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Do you run with music? You never know who you&#8217;re inspiring or what difference you&#8217;re making.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXO164050821 BCX0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What is your connection to Breakthrough T1D and type 1 diabetes:<\/span>\u00a0My connection to T1D is through my dad, who has been living with T1D since he was very young. Watching him manage the daily challenges of this disease has given me a deep appreciation for his strength and resilience. Supporting Breakthrough T1D and running the Falmouth Road Race is my way of honoring him and helping move us closer to a future without T1D.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">How did you get into running:<\/span>\u00a0I got into running because it&#8217;s one of my favorite ways to unwind. I can put my headphones on, clear my mind, and just go. For me, it&#8217;s the same feeling some people get from going for a drive. It&#8217;s my time to disconnect, reset, and enjoy being in the moment.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Is this your first time running the Falmouth Road Race:<\/span>\u00a0This will be my second Falmouth Road Race with Breakthrough T1D.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What you are most looking forward to at the 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race:<\/span>\u00a0What I look forward to most is the incredible atmosphere. Hearing people cheer and yell my name along the course gives me such a boost and makes me want to keep pushing harder.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What are you most nervous about:<\/span>\u00a0If there&#8217;s one thing I&#8217;m a little nervous about, it&#8217;s the heat. It&#8217;s not so much nerves as it is knowing how challenging the weather can be. The heat definitely adds another level of difficulty, but it also makes crossing the finish line that much more rewarding.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Do you run with music? If so, what do you listen to:<\/span>\u00a0I was going to last year but I ended up shutting it off pretty early into the race. The atmosphere is so fun and the spectators yelling your name was my favorite part!<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Is there anything else you would like to share:<\/span> I feel so lucky to be part of this team again this year! I was definitely bummed when I found out I wasn&#8217;t selected at first, so when I was offered a spot a few months later, it made the opportunity that much sweeter. Breakthrough T1D was there for us with support, advocacy opportunities and endless community when Mila was diagnosed at five. I&#8217;m running for the third year in a row, to support the incredible research and advocacy Breakthrough T1D provides and to help move us closer to a future where no family has to face T1D.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">How did you get into running:<\/span>\u00a0I&#8217;ve been running since high school, and it&#8217;s been a part of my life ever since. After graduating college, I completed several marathons, countless half marathons and 5Ks, and even had the opportunity to coach a high school cross-country team.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Is this your first time running the Falmouth Road Race:<\/span>\u00a0This will be my 10th Falmouth Road Race!<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What you are most looking forward to at the 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race:<\/span>\u00a0I&#8217;m most looking forward to running alongside my cousins, seeing my daughters cheering me on throughout the course, and celebrating at the finish line with my friends and family&#8230;especially making our annual stop at the Alighieri house!<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What are you most nervous about:<\/span>\u00a0The heat!<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Do you run with music? Team Sophie also includes Sophie&#8217;s aunt, Christina, and grandfather, Jim.\u00a0When Sophie was first diagnosed we were provided with Breakthrough T1D&#8217;s name as a resource and highly encouraged to request our &#8220;welcome&#8221; package that included Rufus the bear. To this day she still has Rufus, and the package itself was a big bright spot in our lives during a fairly difficult period of adjusting to life as a family managing type 1 diabetes.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">How did you get into running:<\/span>\u00a0Christina and I ran track in high school. While we focused mostly on sprinting, we were excited to try a longer distance with Breakthrough T1D.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Is this your first time running the Falmouth Road Race:<\/span>\u00a0No, this is my second time and Christina and Jim&#8217;s third time.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What you are most looking forward to at the 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race:<\/span>\u00a0We are really looking forward to the crowds cheering! Onlookers are always so encouraging, and it&#8217;s always fun to see others impacted by T1D along the route, including our fellow Breakthroughers.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What are you most nervous about:<\/span>\u00a0The hills and weather! While we usually hope for sun during the summer, a cloud cover on August 16th would be nice!<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Do you run with music? If so, what do you listen to:<\/span>\u00a0We all have somewhat different tastes in music, so it&#8217;s hard to say. My mom created a walk team in honor of me called \u201cKitty\u2019s Kool Kats\u201d which went on to be a top fundraising team for many years. As I got older I wanted to be more involved with Breakthrough T1D on my own and challenged myself to run the Falmouth Road Race as a part of the team.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">How did you get into running:<\/span> I got into running by getting back into fundraising for Breakthrough T1D!<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Is this your first time running the Falmouth Road Race:<\/span>\u00a0This will be my second time running the Falmouth Road Race.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What you are most looking forward to at the 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race:<\/span>\u00a0I am most looking forward to seeing what diabetes advancements our fundraising efforts will contribute to! I am also looking forward to being in such a fun environment again, alongside my family and friends.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What are you most nervous about:<\/span>\u00a0I am most nervous about having a low blood sugar during the run.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Do you run with music? If so, what do you listen to:<\/span>\u00a0Yes I run with music! Although last year I only ran with one headphone on because the crowd was even better to listen to. Wes, now 3.5 years old and a great big brother to his sister Violet, brings so much happiness to everyone he meets. Running this race for Breakthrough T1D to support Wes, and all those with T1D, is something I look forward to doing every Summer!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Is this your first time running the Falmouth Road Race: <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">No, 3rd time!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What you are most looking forward to at the 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race: <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I am looking forward to all the energy that the spectators bring throughout the race and seeing all the different causes people run for. The support from friends and family, and all the spectators is a very unique and special feeling. Every training run and every mile on race day represents hope. Hope for easier management, hope for improved technology, and hope that one day there will be a world without type 1 diabetes.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXO224636393 BCX0\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What is your connection to Breakthrough T1D and type 1 diabetes:<\/span>\u00a0I am running FRR for my daughter Elizabeth, who was diagnosed with T1D at just five years old. Now age 8, Elizabeth navigates the daily challenges of T1D with incredible strength and resilience from insulin injections and CGM changes to the constant monitoring of blood sugars. Being involved with Breakthrough T1D has given our family hope and connected us with a powerful community of families who understand the highs and lows of T1D.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">How did you get into running:<\/span>\u00a0I fell in love with running in 2024 when I was training for the Boston Marathon as a member of team JDRF.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Is this your first time running the Falmouth Road Race:<\/span>\u00a03rd FRR<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What you are most looking forward to at the 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race:<\/span>\u00a0Seeing Elizabeth cheer me on during the race.
