My name is Paul. I am 9 years old and I’ve been living with type 1 diabetes for the last 4½ years. I don’t remember life without diabetes.
I don’t think of living with diabetes as a challenge, but only because it’s all I know. It does not stop me from doing anything, but it sure is a lot of work. The hardest part about T1D is the non-stop testing, carb counting, bolusing and changing infusion sites. It’s difficult to treat high and low blood sugars sometimes, especially when I’m low and have to eat – even if I don’t want to. One of the most frustrating things is being asked if I feel low every time I say “I’m hungry.”
Breakthrough T1D has helped me by letting me know I’m not alone and giving me hope for a cure. By raising money and being a Youth Ambassador, I feel like I’m making a difference to improve my future. I know Breakthrough T1D is working hard to make my life and everyone else’s life with T1D easier every day.
