Day 22 – Meet Kayla
I am 14 and I was diagnosed with T1D at the age of 15 months. I have never known anything else. I just started high school this past September and I also switched schools. I was so nervous about what would happen with a new school, all new people, and having to care for my T1D. Luckily, my nurses are wonderful, I have made some new friends, and I am doing great!
Though there are some rough days when I just want to give up and question my parents and myself all day about why I have T1D, there are many days when I couldn’t be happier. I have met so many great people who also have T1D and we can share our experiences and talk out our problems.
Last year I volunteered at my local Breakthrough T1D office after school and I couldn’t wait to get there every other day! I can’t say THANK YOU enough to all the people at Breakthrough T1D and those who support the fundraising for their events! It truly means the world to me and all of the other T1Ds out there!
