About

In 1991, a group of friends got together for a Sunday morning softball game and tailgate lunch in Eisenhower Park. We had a great time and decided to turn it into an annual fundraiser. One of the game’s original participants, my good friend Brian Katz, had ties to Breakthrough T1D, as his daughter Lauren had recently been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

In it’s over 34 year history this annual softball event has grown into so much more. Raising over $85,000 for Breakthrough T1D, it not only brings awareness for individuals with T1D, but more hope for a cure.

This year at the Annual Tee Up to Cure Diabetes Outing I am honored to be receiving the George Polli Award.

The George Polli Award

George Polli was a humble man of high integrity and great strength.  He appreciated hard work, commitment, and a job well done.  As a husband, dad, and grandfather, he was a family man through and through and showed his love in everything he did for his family and so many others.

The George Polli Golf Outing raised $2.2M for Breakthrough T1D (then, JDRF) in his memory over 20 years.  His family named the event to not only support Breakthrough T1D but to also honor him and his legacy.  We are thrilled to continue that legacy through the George Polli Award.  It is presented each year to a very special individual who exhibits; unending selflessness and humility, consistent strength to do the “right thing” for others, amazing generosity, and incredible support for Breakthrough T1D in our mission for a cure and treatments for T1D.

We invite you to support Breakthrough T1D and everything Phil has done by donating or attending the Tee Up to Cure Diabetes Golf and Pickleball Classic.
