About

Dear Family and Friends,

I’m raising money for Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF), to transform the lives of the millions of people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Five years ago, a few days after my 14th birthday, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. To say that this diagnosis was a life changing experience is an understatement! I am now 19 years old and a freshman at Cornell University. I still do everything I love such as working out, snowboarding, swimming, biking, traveling and immersing myself in the great outdoors. I also love spending time with my friends and family. And while I am the one who has T1D, my family and friends are always there to pitch in when I need them, and I am so grateful for all of their love and support.

For those who don’t know what Type 1 Diabetes is, here is a quick summary. When you have T1D, your body stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to absorbing carbohydrates. Managing the disease is a constant struggle that involves monitoring your blood-sugar level, administering insulin, and carefully balancing these insulin doses with your eating and activity just to stay alive. Thanks to advancements in technology, I wear a Dexcom G7 sensor which monitors my blood sugar 24/7. This technology is amazing, however sometimes I still need to prick my finger to check my sugar levels. With T1D there are no days off and there is no cure. But there is hope.

There is no way to prevent T1D and there is no cure–yet. But Breakthrough T1D is working hard to change that. And that’s why our family is supporting Breakthrough T1D this year, as we all want an end to Type 1 Diabetes. Now more than ever, organizations like Breakthrough T1D need your support, and no amount is too small! Your donation will not only change lives for people with T1D, but will change your own life too. The inspiration from this community will stick with you, and the pride you can take for your role will last a lifetime. If all our family, friends and acquaintances contribute, we can reach our goal and help put an end to Type 1 Diabetes!

Thank you so very much for your support!

With appreciation,

Jake Dieterich
