You may ask why clinical trials are important?\u00a0 It is through these studies that researchers can determine if new medications and devices are safe and effective in diabetes treatment<\/a>.\u00a0 Without these types of trials, we would not have our continuous glucose sensors, insulin pumps or necessary medications. I can tell you from first hand experience how important it is that as Type 1s<\/a>, we all participate in trials.<\/p>\n

My name\u00a0is Carrie Khouri and I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes<\/a> 51 years ago, long before the first blood machines were ever available.\u00a0 The first home blood glucose machine looked like a presidential football.\u00a0 It was about 9 inches by 6 inches and it was housed in a foam padded brief case.\u00a0 It had to remain stable on a flat surface in your home.\u00a0 You could not carry it with you. All I can say is I am extremely grateful for the technology that we have today. Without clinical trials, we would not have these advancements.\u00a0 The more people who participate in clinical trials, the faster we advance toward a cure or prevention.<\/p>\n
