Kegel Harley-Davidson Hosts Thunder Run

Kegel Harley-Davidson in Rockford Illinois is hosting the first Juvenile Diabetes Thunder Run on July 10th to benefit Breakthrough T1D! The goal is to raise more awareness of T1D and they have already received great support from the community. Find out how the event got started and what to expect below.
How did this event get started?
We wanted to start a new annual tradition of hosting an event that would bring the community together. Our ride is an escorted ride that has committed involvement from the Rock River Harley Owners Group (RRHOG), a big local motorcycle club, Fire and Iron Station 53, Public Guardians (Law Enforcement), and 104.9 WXRX. We hope this event will grow thru the years and be a continuing success supporting Breakthrough T1D!
Why was Breakthrough T1D chosen as the charity of choice?
Many in the Rockford area are affected by type 1 diabetes, but aren’t getting the much needed support from our community. We wanted to support a charity that didn’t have a lot of attention from Rockford. To host an event like this, we are helping spread awareness of T1D along with raising funds for research.
What are you most excited about for event day?
When a motorcycle passes by, most people will stop to look and watch it pass. When you see a parade of motorcycles pass, you stop and watch in amazement and curiosity. Why are there so many bikes? What are they all riding for? Where are they going? How can I join in the fun?
There are other cities that have a community parade of bikes that ride to support a charity. The city stops in excitement and brings hundreds of spectators to watch thousands of bikes ride by. We want the same for Rockford and we can’t wait to bring that same excitement to the community.
Registration is open! Visit the event’s Facebook page for complete information.
