Chesterfield resident Ashley Whipple knows the importance of Breakthrough T1D’s Promise to Remember Me campaign.  Ashley is 14 and was diagnosed with T1D (type 1 diabetes) this past April.

JDRF’s (formerly the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) reputation as one of the most effective advocacy organizations in Washington, D.C. is a direct result of the personal relationships  advocates and their families around the country have developed over time with their Members of Congress in state and local district offices, as well as in D.C.  Ashley and Congressman Luetkemeyer are a great example.

The Promise to Remember Me Campaign, which began in 2000, is all about building these relationships, and each campaign has been more successful than the last.  During the campaign, Breakthrough T1D families and those with type 1 diabetes (T1D) visit their lawmakers to discuss the important of continued funding to find a cure for Ashley and millions of other insulin-dependent people around the nation.
