Kicking off Ride Season in Burlington & La Crosse

The 2023 Ride to Cure Diabetes season kicked off at the end of July in Burlington, Vermont. Riders started the weekend by connecting with cyclists all over the country and exploring the charm of downtown Burlington. They had the opportunity to participate in educational seminars, a tune-up ride, and team dinners.

The more than 200 cyclists, including our 2 Kansas and Missouri team members, started the Ride on Saturday morning ready for the long hills ahead. Unfortunately the riders on the course encountered a drop in temperature and pouring rain for much of the day.

Despite the weather conditions and endless hills, all riders, including our local cyclists, made it across the finish line safe and smiling.

Shortly after the Burlington Ride event, the La Crosse, Wisconsin weekend was underway! The Kansas and Missouri Ride team was well represented with 25 riders participating, including two local staff members. With Ride weekend underway, our team was able to connect with not only other riders from around the country, but with our own teammates from across our chapter’s territories.

The night before the Ride kicked-off, a ceremonial dinner was held where teams, individuals, and chapters were recognized for their accomplishments. Our chapter was recognized as fourth in fundraising for the Wisconsin Ride, raising over $69,000!

The over 400 riders set off on Saturday morning on the gorgeous course that crossed through Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. After all the Kansas and Missouri riders crossed the finish line, the accomplishments of all participating was celebrated with dinner and awards. Over $1.7M was raised over the season for the event and this would not have been possible without the dedication of our riders.

We couldn’t be more proud of everything our team accomplished on and off the course so far this season. With Grand Rapids, Death Valley, and Amelia Island still to go, there is so much more to look forward to.
