Hannah Jackman is a 25-year-old living in New York City, lacing up her sneakers in two months to participate in the London Marathon for Breakthrough T1D. Having completed two NYC marathons, she is utilizing her passion for running to advocate for a cause incredibly close to her heart: supporting the T1D community, which includes her brother Adam.<\/p>\n

Championing T1D Awareness and Breakthroughs<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Her younger brother was diagnosed with T1D at just three years old. Hannah remembers the days he took his insulin shots after every meal and monitored his blood sugar multiple times a day with painful finger pricks. The combination of the insulin pump and CGM tremendously helped Adam live a freer, fuller, and healthier life.<\/p>\n

“It is thanks to all the supporters of Breakthrough T1D who have made it possible for technological advancements that allow my brother to have an easier life with T1D than he used to,” says Hannah.<\/p>\n

Since her Adam’s diagnosis, the Jackman family has been deeply committed to supporting Breakthrough T1D through Walks, fundraisers, and volunteering. In Hannah’s senior year of high school, she helped organize Walk events at several schools across Long Island and encouraged students with T1D to bring T1D awareness and support to the forefront of their school communities. As Hannah grew older, running became her outlet to unite her passion for the sport and her commitment to champion Breakthrough’s mission for accelerating T1D breakthroughs and cures.<\/p>\n

A Dream Come True Across the Pond<\/strong><\/h3>\n

For Hannah’s third marathon, she wanted to further challenge herself with a new crowd, course and continent. It’s been her dream to run in one of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, and this year she’ll have her chance\u2014 in the city she fell in love with during her study abroad. Beyond the thrill of the race, it means the world to Hannah to use this platform to support her brother and everyone else living with T1D.<\/p>\n

Marathon Tips for First-Time Runners<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Running a marathon is no easy feat, but with the right preparation, it\u2019s one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. Here is Hannah’s advice if you’re considering running a marathon on behalf of Breakthrough T1D, or any cause\/nonprofit close to your heart:<\/p>\n

  • Consistency is Key<\/strong>: Keep up with your training regimen and don’t skip those runs even when it gets tough.<\/li>\n
  • Fuel Your Body<\/strong>: It’s important to ensure your body is properly fueled with the right nutrients throughout your training.<\/li>\n
  • Stretch and Rest<\/strong>: Make stretching and sleep a priority.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Hannah’s journey is about much more than crossing the finish line, it’s a celebration of resilience, a tribute to her brother, and a powerful reminder of how purpose, passion, and personal achievement moves Breakthrough T1D’s mission forward.
