9th Annual TypeOneNation Summit continues to be the largest of its type in the country!
On Saturday, May 14, 2016, over 1500 people came to hear what is happening locally and nationally in the T1D community at Wayne County Community College District, Western Campus in Belleville, Michigan.
Our Co-chairs Dr. Colleen Buggs-Saxton, MD, PhD; Children’s Hospital of Michigan and Wayne State University, Detroit, MI and Dr. Jennifer Wyckoff, MD; Metabolism, Endocrinology and Diabetes Division, University of Michigan Health System led the program content, building on topical subjects most relevant to what individuals and families want to hear, such as insulin pumping, CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor), food and nutrition, sports and exercise, and the psycho-social impact of daily living with T1D.
Breakthrough T1D was thrilled to present two outstanding research scientists delivering keynote presentations:Â Dr. Francine R. Kaufman, MD: Chief Medical Office and VP, Global Medical, Clinical and Health Affairs, Medtronic Diabetes speaking on the Artificial Pancreas, and Dr. George L. King, Chief Scientific Officer, Joslin Diabetes Center, Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School expounding on the Joslin Medalist Study.
This year’s celebrity T1D spokesperson was Sierra Sandison, Miss Idaho 2014 of #ShowMeYourPump fame. Sierra shared her story of perseverance and determination to accomplish anything you choose to do, that T1D doesn’t have to hold you back from living your dreams.
This one-day, free of charge event, couldn’t happen without our wonderful sponsors, speakers, volunteers, and numerous other people involved in making this day a success. Our Breakthrough T1D Kids Camp and Teen Central attendees had a blast in the youth programs, and even our tiniest of T1D Littles enjoyed time in the Super Hero Training Camp. This summit was truly a day of education, information, and inspiration for all.
