Workout for a Cure

“November 20th, 2015 marked the beginning of Bella’s 8th year living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). At the young, but wise age of 13, Bella is faced with new and different challenges that T1D presents. We are thankful for her perseverance, her resilience and her optimism. Some days, we don’t know how she does it. But on no day, does she have a choice.” -Parents, Angela and Mark Cavallaro, Breakthrough T1D One Walk, Baltimore Event Chair
WALK TIME HAS BECOME BITTERSWEET FOR US:
BITTER because we can’t take it away from her, we can’t give her permission to take the day off and not worry about it. We see the lives that it claims with more and more frequency. We’ve comforted too many families as they joined a club they never signed up for. Eight years is a long time…..but it’s been many more for others.
SWEET because Bella is SO much bigger than this disease. She is bright eyed and energetic, smart and athletic. She feels intensely and deeply, loves life around her. She has a great laugh. She is sunshine to others. Bella is taking her T1D diagnosis with great stride. She has hope and sees a future without it.
Is it making a difference you ask? Bella believes it is. We believe it is. Please watch this short video and decide for yourself.
Bella has been participating in the CrossFit Varsity program this past year. Her take-a-ways (to mention just a few) are strength, confidence, nutrition know-how, awesome role models, perseverance and camaraderie—all helpful when fighting the daily battle of type 1 diabetes!
Saturday April 9th from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. will be a great opportunity to learn more about Breakthrough T1D, Outsiders CrossFit, and Bella’s Battalion, participate in a fun, family friendly fitness challenge, socialize with refreshments and raffles, and support a great cause!
