What to Expect: Come at noon to enjoy the pre-Walk fun! We’ve changed the name of our flagship fundraising event to communicate our focus on a single goal: creating a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).  The refreshed look and enhanced fundraising support reflect the powerful impact you can make by joining the global leader in T1D research.

 

CHECK IN TENT (formerly Registration)

All walkers must check in. Walkers who have money to turn in should turn it in at Check In. Cash and checks should be sealed inside a completed walker envelope.  Envelopes will be available at the “Walker Envelope Completion Area” on Walk Day. Credit cards will be accepted at Check In. If you are eligible for a One Walk t-shirt, you will be given a ticket to be exchanged for a t-shirt at the “T-Shirt Distribution Area” the day of the Walk.

WHITE T-SHIRTS:  Any individual walker that raises $100+

All T1D walkers will receive a special blue bandana at Check-In.

*** Any walker who has not pre-registered must fill out a walker envelope to hand in at Check-In.

 

NEW FAMILY TEAM TENT

New Family Walk teams are encouraged to visit the New Family Team Tent! Teams will be greeted by volunteers, meet other new Walk teams, learn how to become a Breakthrough T1D advocate, and receive One Walk bandanas.

 

KIDS CORNER ACTIVITIES TENT

This year’s Kids Corner will feature Brickz 4 Kids, a Home Depot activity, tattoos, bubbles, popcorn, games and more!

 

TEAM VILLAGE Raise $6,000+ and Breakthrough T1D will provide a reserved team tent in the Team Village. Family and Corporate Team tents will include a table and chairs, a goodie bag, and one customizable sign ‘I’m the raise $_______ type’ to carry along the Walk route.

 

V1P TENT

Raise $1,000+ individually to receive access to the V1P Tent the day of the Walk. Fundraising minimum must be met prior to or on Walk day.  V1P walkers can take advantage of the V1P expedited check in at the general “Check In  Area” where they will receive a V1P lanyard granting access to the V1P Tent.

V1P TENT WILL FEATURE: Exclusive goodies and specialty refreshments including cupcakes from Viva La Cupcake! 

WALK ROUTE AND GUIDELINES

Walkers may choose from a 1-mile route or a 3-mile route. The routes will be clearly marked. There are no restrooms along the route. There will be 3 rest stops with water, apples and snacks for walkers (and glucose tablets for emergencies).

• All walkers must use the existing sidewalks along the walk route. Walking in vehicular travel lanes is prohibited.
• All walkers must obey all traffic signals, signs, and markings.
• Please do not block entrances/exits to businesses, residences, etc.
• Please do not block sidewalks or handicap ramps to other pedestrian traffic.
• Please do not block line of sight at street intersections to allow for safe vehicular turns and pedestrian crossings.
• Please clean up after any animals.

PET POLICY

This event is dog-friendly. Just come prepared to clean up after your furry friend! 

PICNIC

After the walk, a picnic will be provided by Bad Wolf BBQ at Elmwood Park.

Make sure to take pictures with your friends and family at our Breakthrough T1D Photo Booth and upload with the hashtag #JDRFOneWalk #Roanoke.  The Roanoke Times Paparazzi will also be in attendance.
