Johns Hopkins = Top Corporate Partner Across all Three Walks!

Our Chapter has had the honor of partnering with the Johns Hopkins Health System and University in its quest to turn Type One into Type None for many years. But this year, the Johns Hopkins employees and system took their commitment to our mission to a whole new level and inspired the Breakthrough T1D community by contributing in a BIG way!
As many in our community have experienced firsthand, Johns Hopkins Medicine is an exemplary caregiver to families and individuals impacted by type 1 diabetes (T1D). What many people may not know about Johns Hopkins, is that they are also one of Breakthrough T1D’s most important research partners. They better illuminate our understanding of this disease and drive real progress towards better treatments and the ultimate cure we all seek. Their support of $3.8 million over the course of ten years has made it possible for Breakthrough T1D to fund $98 million in T1D research projects, including over 45 human clinical trials of potential T1D therapies.
Last November, at the 29th Annual Breakthrough T1D Maryland Hope Gala, in Baltimore, Johns Hopkins Medicine was honored for their longstanding and highly effective engagement across virtually every area of interest, concern and hope for the type 1 diabetes community.

This May, at the Breakthrough T1D One Walk, Baltimore, they went above and beyond with the leadership of long-time Walk committee member, Carlisa Jones. Carlisa’s year began when she was awarded the Johns Hopkins Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award for all her amazing work supporting Breakthrough T1D and our T1D community. This boosted Carlisa to begin work on the Johns Hopkins Medicine Team and sponsorships from many entities within Johns Hopkins.

The Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Medicine, and Johns Hopkins University became even more impactful partners to the work of our mission by granting the Breakthrough T1D One Walk, Baltimore with a $15,000 donation – the largest sponsorship across all our Chapter’s Walks (MD, DC, and NoVA). This generous donation combined with the Johns Hopkins Medicine Walk team’s grassroots fundraising efforts, totaling over $11,000, brought their contributions to over $26,900 for T1D research!
The contributions of Johns Hopkins have truly made a significant impact on Breakthrough T1D’s mission to prevent, better treat, and, ultimately, cure T1D and the lives of people with T1D. We, at the Breakthrough T1D Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Chapter, could not be more grateful for the support from all of the entities of Johns Hopkins and its outstanding employees. A special thank you to volunteer lead, Carlisa Jones, whose leadership is unparalleled.
