APPLY NOW: 2019 Breakthrough T1D Children’s Congress
Calling all kids with T1D, ages 4 to 17 (by July 8, 2019): The application process for the 2019 Breakthrough T1D Children’s Congress is open now through November 30.
Children’s Congress will take place July 8 – 10, 2019, on Capitol Hill; one parent or guardian will accompany each delegate.
Every two years, more than 160 children and teens with T1D gather in Washington, D.C., to meet face-to-face with U.S. Senators, Representatives, and other top government decisionmakers.
Children’s Congress delegates help Members of Congress understand life with T1Dand explain the urgency of funding T1D research. Delegates will also form bonds with other kids with T1D from across the country and around the world. The application process is very competitive; two years ago, more than 1,500 applied for 160 spots.
Applicants must be willing to share their personal T1D stories and their interest in Breakthrough T1D’s mission of creating a world without Type 1. Successful applicants have a strong history of involvement with their local Breakthrough T1D Chapter (participating in Walks, TypeOneNation Summit, Gala, etc.). Many successful applicants have also demonstrated a commitment to Breakthrough T1D’s Advocacy efforts by attending local Promise to Remember Me meetings with Members of Congress and participating in JDRF’s Youth Advocacy Leadership Program.
