On November 2, the JDRF Capital Chapter will honor Savills executive and former Breakthrough T1D International Board Member Adam Singer at the 19^th Annual Breakthrough T1D Hope Gala at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. Singer is being recognized for his 40 years of leadership and significant contributions to Breakthrough T1D’s vision of a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).

After being diagnosed with T1D in 1978 at age 18, Singer teamed up with Breakthrough T1D’s founding families to focus on finding a cure for diabetes. While he was a student at the University of Pennsylvania, Singer started T1D support groups in more than 30 Breakthrough T1D chapters. Singer served as a member of Breakthrough T1D’s International Board of Directors from 1982 to 1985, the youngest member in Breakthrough T1D’s history. He also was Chairman of the Board of the Capital Chapter in 1988 and 1989. Currently, he is serving as a Director Emeritus of the Breakthrough T1D International Board of Directors.

After starting his career in commercial real estate in the 1980s, Singer rallied his colleagues at Savills and within the industry to support Breakthrough T1D and bring awareness to T1D.  In 1990 Singer founded the Breakthrough T1D Real Estate Games in DC to raise funds for research. This annual day of Olympic-style competitions has grown into the premier fundraising event for the DC-area commercial real estate community, raising over $10 million for T1D research since its inception. This year alone the DC Games raised a record-breaking $730,000 and hosted more than 3,000 participants at American University. His legacy continues to grow as Breakthrough T1D expanded the Real Estate Games to New York City and Chicago with further expansion planned in Indianapolis, Nashville, Toronto, London, and other cities by 2021.

Singer is an executive managing director of Savills and for over 35 years has managed prestigious national account clients, completing work in more than 100 cities. He is known throughout the firm and his industry as an experienced consultant, master of ceremonies for big events, dedicated mentor and thought leader. Throughout his distinguished career, Singer has had an active presence, locally and nationally, in the nonprofit world. He has worked on a pro bono basis and served in leadership positions for several charities, but none more so than Breakthrough T1D.

Adam and his wife Suzanne live in Potomac, Maryland. They have two sons, Matt and Dominic.
