Advocacy Update December 2019

in

Congress continues to consider multiple bills related to drug prices, and we are encouraged by proposals from both parties that take steps to lower insulin costs, such as policies that cap monthly out-of-pocket costs, lower prices at the pharmacy counter, and fund community health centers that help the uninsured. No one should ever have to skip doses of this life-saving drug due to cost. We need Congress and the President to enact policies that will make a meaningful difference in the lives of those with T1D who must take insulin 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to stay alive.

The House has voted to renew the funding for the Special Diabetes Program until May 22, and the Senate is expected to do the same on December 19. The SDP has proven extremely effective, delivering new technologies and treatment advances that are improving the lives of people with T1D and bringing us closer to cures for the disease. A multi-year renewal of the SDP is critical to the T1D community – continued funding will empower scientists to pursue this promising research without interruption. Breakthrough T1D volunteers and staff have met with Members of Congress from across the country – and on both sides of the aisle. There is strong, bipartisan support for the SDP, and now is the time to renew this critical research funding.

We will keep you informed on additional advocacy steps you can take – so no one goes without the insulin they need, and so T1D research momentum continues.
