After discovering a love for cycling during COVID and later receiving an email at work about joining the Hy-Vee Corporate Ride Team, she decided to give it a try even though she admits she didn\u2019t fully understand the scope of Breakthrough T1D at the time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFast forward three years,\u201d she says, \u201cand I am beyond honored to ride on behalf of the amazing community of individuals that I quite literally stumbled into.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>From Anxious First Ride to Confident Third<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Heading into her first ride, Allison was nervous. \u201cI didn\u2019t know anyone else who was participating,\u201d she recalls. \u201cNor did I truly know what to expect. It was my first organized large ride.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But that changed quickly. On the first night, <em>The Minnesota\/Dakotas Loons<\/em>\u00a0welcomed her to their table and instantly made her feel part of something much bigger. \u201cNow, going into my third ride, I <em>know<\/em>\u00a0what everyone means when they talk about \u2018THE HILL,\u2019 and I feel truly blessed to help raise money to find a cure and change lives,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>Her experience has also changed her personally.\u00a0\u201cI now know more than ever what I\u2019m capable of doing and it\u2019s so much more than I ever imagined. It\u2019s empowering to push yourself past what you thought possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Power of the Ride Community<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For Allison, the most surprising part of the Ride has been the people. \u201cYou always hear people say bike people are the nicest, and until you join that community, you don\u2019t realize how true it is,\u201d she says. \u201cThe individuals in this community are so kind, honest, and want everyone to succeed. It\u2019s not just a ride &#8211; it\u2019s the mission. The appreciation for the riders and their families is so genuine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That sense of support and connection has been a meaningful part of the experience for Allison. \u201cThis chapter has brought a sense of community and provided lifelong friends we couldn\u2019t imagine not having in our lives,\u201d she says. \u201cEven if we\u2019re separated by miles, I know the coaches and team are there to support us in all aspects of life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/minnesotadakotasnew\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/147\/2025\/06\/Allison-3.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-8877\" src=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/minnesotadakotasnew\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/147\/2025\/06\/Allison-3-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"411\" height=\"308\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/minnesotadakotas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/147\/2025\/06\/Allison-3-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/minnesotadakotas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/147\/2025\/06\/Allison-3.jpeg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 411px) 100vw, 411px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>La Crosse Highlights &amp; Ride Traditions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Allison has come to love the La Crosse ride, especially the scenery, the challenge of the course, and <em>The Pearl Ice Cream<\/em>\u00a0(a well-earned treat after a long ride!). She also looks forward to one moment in particular each year: \u201cCrossing into Wisconsin and seeing the \u2018Welcome to WI\u2019 sign. That\u2019s when you know you\u2019ve ridden through three states and are nearly to the finish. It\u2019s such a great feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And, of course, the welcome dinner. \u201cIt always delivers a powerful message and helps remind everyone <em>why<\/em> we do this and what we\u2019re accomplishing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Looking Ahead<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This year, Allison is most excited about spending time with the chapter again and contributing to life-saving research. Her personal goal? \u201cTo finish faster than my previous ride time, under seven hours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s motivated not just by the finish line, but by the recognition and encouragement along the way. \u201cThe support means everything,\u201d she says. \u201cFrom coaches\u2019 messages to a simple like on social media.
