We are excited to be hosting Kids Camp and Teen Time as part of TypeOneNation this year! Children and teens are welcome to join our youth and teen programming, while parents and caregivers sit in on breakout sessions.
Kids Camp is for youth in grades kindergarten through 7th.
Teen Time is for teens in grades 8th through 12th.
These programs will host all children living with T1D, as well as their siblings and friends. Children will be broken into smaller groups and assigned volunteers to lead fun and engaging activities, as well as to support your child(ren) as needed.
Parents and caregivers, we are focused on offering a safe and secure environment, but we need your help with a few things:
- You must register your child(ren) for Kids Camp or Teen Time using one of the following ticket types:
- YOUTH TICKET, for children in grades kindergarten through 7th,
- OR

- TEEN TICKET, for children in grades 8th through 12th.
- Parents/guardians/caregivers are not permitted to leave the premises without their child(ren).
- Please review both the photo release and legal liability waiver (this is required to participate in Kids Camp and Teen Time).
- Parents/guardians/caregivers will be contacted by text or call if your child needs help with their T1D management during the program.
- You must register your child(ren) for Kids Camp or Teen Time using one of the following ticket types:

8:00am-8:30am | Check-in
Attendees can begin checking in at 8:00am.
Take some time to visit the vendor fair.
8:30am-9:30am | Welcome & Keynote
Make sure you’re seated in the main auditorium to hear a special welcome message from Utah Community Board President Mike Reeve.
Our opening keynote will be presented by Anastasia Albanese-O’Neill, Ph.D., APRN, CDCES, Breakthrough T1D’s AVP of T1D Education and Clinical Implementation.
9:30am-9:45am | TRANSITION
Make your way to your first chosen breakout session.
Parents and caregivers with children participating in Kids Camp or Teen Time will check in to their program during this time.
9:45am-10:30am | Breakout Session #1 (choose 1)
- Making T1D Part of a Happy Life, presented by SaRene Brooks, RDN, CDCES, Founder of Goal Nutrition & Diabetes Specialty
- How to Navigate a Fitness & Nutrition Routine While Living with T1D, presented by Shelby Castleton, NASM-certified personal trainer, macro nutrition coach, F45 trainer
10:30am-10:45am | TRANSITION
Take a bathroom break or visit the vendor fair before making your way to your second chosen breakout session.
10:45am-11:30am | Breakout Session #2 (choose 1)
- Taking T1D to School, presented by Kaylynn Buxton, RN, BS, CDCES, and Bri Dougall, RN, BSN, CDCES, whom both are diabetes educators at Primary Children’s Hospital
- Empowering Resilience: Thriving with T1D, presented by Jessica Powell, MSW, CSW, mental health therapist
11:30am-11:45am | TRANSITION
Make your way back to the main auditorium for closing.
Parents and caregivers with children at Kids Camp or Teen Time are required to check them out of their program during this time.
11:45am-12:00pm | Closing Remarks
Make sure to be back in your seats in the main auditorium for a closing message from Utah TypeOneNation Summit Chair Kate Sandfoss.

There is ample surface lot and garage parking located at Jordan Commons attendees can utilize for free.

About This Event
Utah individuals and families impacted by type 1 diabetes (T1D) are invited to a free TypeOneNation Summit, hosted by the Breakthrough T1D Mountain West Chapter!
Join us the morning of Saturday, November 11, to celebrate National Diabetes Awareness Month (NDAM) with us! Learn more about who Breakthrough T1D is and how we serve the greater T1D community. Local experts and leaders in the T1D community will be hosting breakout sessions focusing on different topics affecting all ages and stages of T1D. Breakout session topics will include school, mental health and nutrition, all from the lens of life with T1D.
Please reserve a spot for each individual guest who will be attending using the appropriate ticket type. We look forward to seeing you!
Light breakfast and refreshments will be available, including gluten-free options.
