Breakthrough T1D One Walk Spotlight – Jenna’s Journey

2019 Kearney Breakthrough T1D One Walk

When we walk, it lets Jenna see exactly how big her village is! It lets her know she does not stand alone in this fight! As her mother, it shows me that I’m not alone and that I have a village too. One of our family’s favorite ways to raise money is walk team shirts. We live in a small community and nothing brings more joy to my heart then to walk into the grocery store or a restaurant and see a Jenna’s Journey shirt.

2018 Kearney Breakthrough T1D One Walk

As the mother of a child with type 1 diabetes (T1D); it is constantly on my mind. Is today a pump site change day? Is today a Dexcom change day? Do we have to do both today? I am constantly checking my phone to check on her even when she is with me, I worry did I give her enough insulin for that? Her blood sugar is pretty low right now, it’s not a good time for a bath (baths/showers can cause a rapid drop in blood sugar for her). When Jenna is sick, we don’t just have to worry about managing whatever illness she has, we also have to worry about ketones? If so immediate action is required or she could end up hospitalized or worse.

This is why it’s so important to walk, to raise awareness and funds for  T1D research. So many technological advances and trials have been accomplished with the funds raised. Our family’s hope is that one day not one person will have to hear you/your child has type one diabetes.

Please help support Breakthrough T1D’s mission to cure T1D and improve lives. Join us for the Virtual Kearney Breakthrough T1D One Walk on April 19th! You can join our team, donate or both by click HERE.

Thank you!
