If you have ever wished your teen could spend time with other teens who truly get it, or you have ever wanted to attend breakout sessions without worrying whether your child is safe and engaged, the Breakthrough T1D Community Summit in Las Vegas is for the whole family. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) impacts every member of a family, and this day is designed with that in mind!<\/p>\n

Courtney, a T1D mom, captures what makes the day feel different the moment you walk in the room.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is an amazing day filled with a community of people affected by T1D….anyone from children, parents, relatives, spouses, etc. It is a great way to network and get to know others affected by this disease.\u201d<\/p>\n

Teen Track where teens connect, share, and have fun<\/h3>\n

Teen Track is designed for teens living with T1D to have dedicated time with other teens, play fun games, and talk about real life situations in a space that is theirs.<\/p>\n

As Courtney shares, Teen Track creates the kind of conversations teens need.<\/p>\n

\u201cTeen Track is where teens attend a breakout session with other T1D’s and are able to discuss real life situations that they are faced with on a daily basis that us as parents may not ‘understand’ as much as we say we do!\u201d<\/p>\n

For Lily, Teen Track is also where connection starts and grows. She has lived with T1D since she was 19 months old, and she loves being a welcoming face for families who are new.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy favorite part of the Summit is getting to meet new families. A lot of people attending the Summit tend to be newly diagnosed families and I always enjoy introducing myself and assuring them that everything is going to be ok. I really enjoy when I can connect with someone who may be new to the T1D community and see them open up as the day goes on.\u201d<\/p>\n

That is the heart of Teen Track, a place where teens feel seen, welcomed, and understood.<\/p>\n

Kids Zone where kids learn about T1D through play<\/h3>\n

Kids Zone is a space for kids with T1D and their siblings to play fun, educational games and activities that help them better understand T1D, in a safe setting. While kids are learning and having fun, parents can attend breakout sessions that cover topics like mental health, exercise, technology, and even travel without worrying about their child.<\/p>\n

Although Lily is now almost 16 years old and will not be joining Kids Zone this year, Courtney has used Kids Zone in the past and knows what it gives families.<\/p>\n

\u201cKids Zone is an amazing option for parents to register their children for (especially your T1D child who you may not feel comfortable leaving with just any babysitter). This allows the parents to feel comfortable that their child(ren) are being monitored and tended to in the same vicinity and allows the parents to attend breakout sessions and learn how to care for their T1D kiddo the best that they can.\u201d<\/p>\n

And for Courtney and Lily, it all adds up to one clear message for families considering attending.<\/p>\n
