Celebrating our Ride to Cure Success
in Fundraising
As many of our riders will tell you, Breakthrough T1D Ride to Cure Diabetes isn’t just a bike ride. No, Ride to Cure is so much more.
It’s an experience where hundreds of riders come together from all over the world to make new friendships, enjoy the unparalleled camaraderie of the Ride community and raise money to help end type 1 diabetes (T1D).
This year, we had 68 total chapter riders, with 11 T1D riders and 23 riders new to the Ride to Cure Diabetes program! Our chapter team, known as the Metro Roadsters, won the award for Top Fundraising Chapter at the Ride in Saratoga Springs, NY! We raised the most money and were perhaps the easiest to spot on the course as we had “Jersey” tomatoes attached to the tops of our helmets!
Collectively, the Metro Roadsters team, raised $313,850 (and counting!) for life-changing T1D research.
Shoutout to the top fundraisers on our team:
Jeff Krietzman: $10,817
Stephen Moldt: $10,171
Jerry Keselman: $9,779
Joanna Southerland-Mele: $8,400
Brian Quinn: $8,297
When the Breakthrough T1D Ride program first became a national program 20 years ago, pumps, CGMs and artificial pancreas devices were all thought to be Star Wars technology. Like being on a ride and looking over your shoulder to view the miles that you just put behind you, there is no sweeter thought than knowing that with every mile ridden, a world without T1D is all that closer to reality.
Although the 2018 season has come to an end, most riders are looking forward to January 16, when the registration for next year’s Ride to Cure Diabetes opens!
