2023 Fund a Cure Family: The Wagmans
in Fundraising
Meet the Wagman Family!
We are pleased to introduce you to this extraordinary family, who will be spotlighted during the Fund a Cure portion of the 2023 One Dream Gala on Saturday, May 13 at Bell Works in Holmdel.
Emilie Wagman, 16, has lived with type 1 diabetes (T1D) for almost 9 years, having been diagnosed in April 2014. With the unwavering support of her parents, Laurence and Lori, and her siblings Joel and Abigail, she embodies the mantra “learn to live with diabetes, not let it live your life.”
Over the years, Emilie has come to own her diagnosis. She has advocated for funding and accessibility through calls to Congress and fundraised for better research and technology through fashion shows and walks. She attends Camp Nejeda each summer and will even be a Leader-in-Training this coming summer.
Emilie has many talents and interests! She says, “Outside of school, I enjoy ice skating, specializing in solo pattern dance, and I also like to dance. In school, I run a math-science club that is meant to help engage the school community and educate them about such topics.”
Believing in Breakthrough T1D’s mission to end type 1 diabetes for millions of children and adults living with this disease, the Wagmans are excited about this opportunity. Lori said, “The funds we donate – and those we can help raise through Fund A Cure – gives us hope for the future of diabetes, for better technology and for a cure one day. The advances we’ve seen in the last 9 years alone are amazing and promising.”
