Breakthrough T1D to Celebrate National Volunteer Week April 21-27<\/h3>\n

The\u00a0JDRF<\/span>\u00a0NorCal<\/span>\u00a0Chapter is thrilled to celebrate our outstanding volunteer partners during\u00a0National Volunteer Week,\u00a0April<\/span>\u00a021-27<\/b>.\u00a0JDRF<\/span>\u00a0was started by volunteers committed to creating a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D) for their children\u2014and everyone else affected by the disease. Without their vision, it would have been impossible to grow into the organization we are today\u2014or to devote so much time and money to funding T1D research. ATTD Brings Together Top Minds in Diabetes Research<\/h3>\n

Leading researchers gathered in Florence, Italy, for the annual meeting of the\u00a0Advanced Technologies & Treatments for Diabetes (ATTD)<\/b>, which took place from March 6-9. There were more than 5,000 attendees and featured more than 50 studies presented by\u00a0JDRF<\/span>-funded researchers, funded now or in the past, working toward preventing, treating, and\u2014one day\u2014curing T1D and its complications.\u00a0Read the highlights<\/a><\/b>.<\/p>\n

Inside a T1D Clinical Trial:\u00a0A\u00a0NorCal<\/span>\u00a0Teen\u2019s Perspective<\/h3>\n

Brody Paine, 17, was diagnosed with T1D four years ago. His family immediately learned of a\u00a0JDRF<\/span>-funded clinical trial at Stanford University that sought to extend the honeymoon phase of recently diagnosed T1D children through the use of the blood pressure medication verapamil.\u00a0He says, “The decision to participate in the study was one of the best T1D-related decisions I have made since diagnosis.”\u00a0Read more<\/a><\/b>.<\/p>\n
