Gordon Shevlin brings a keen business sense to Breakthrough T1D’s mission to cure type 1 diabetes (T1D). With more than 25 years of technical, sales, marketing and management experience in the technology sector, he believes that “with technology and funding we can engineer the cure to help the millions of people who have T1D.” He puts his words into action, leading corporate development on our East Bay Branch Board of Directors and serving as last year’s Corporate Recruitment Chair for the Walk to Cure Diabetes at the Oakland Zoo and the Walk to Cure Diabetes at California’s Great America in Santa Clara.

Gordon is Chief Executive Officer and part owner of Allgress, Inc., providing IT security solutions to companies challenged by complex security and regulatory environments. Previously, he was Executive Vice President of FishNet Security. As a corporate executive in the Bay Area, he is very aware of the costs involved with T1D. He says, “I would like to educate business leaders on how important a cure can be not only to their employees but also the tremendous health care savings that each employer would gain.” He quickly calculates the numbers and says, “Statistically, a person without T1D spends about $4,700 a year for healthcare whereas a person with T1D will be at an average of $14,700.”

Creating more awareness about T1D and finding a cure is Gordon’s aspiration. He looks forward to his time and efforts paying off so that “millions of people will not need to be afflicted with this disease ever again.”
