Breakthrough T1D to Honor Rick & Nancy Riley at 2022 Hope Gala
Each year at the Hope Gala, Breakthrough T1D presents the Living & Giving Award to community members who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to our mission. The 2022 honorees, Rick & Nancy Riley, are longtime supporters of Breakthrough T1D. They have been actively involved with the organization since their son Alex was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in 2000.
When Alex was in elementary school, Nancy founded Coins for a Cure, a 24-school fundraiser in the SRVUSD, raising over $200,000. In 2008, Alex was selected to represent the state of California at the Breakthrough T1D Children’s Congress in Washington, DC. The family formed a Breakthrough T1D Walk team “Alex’s Army” which has been a top fundraising team for many years. Nancy has served on our board in many roles including Social Event Chair and Family Walk Team Chair. She co-chaired the 2007 Hope Gala and chaired eight Pixar galas benefiting Breakthrough T1D. She also helped to launch the Breakthrough T1D Summer Classic golf event in 2006, co-chairing it in 2019.
“What can I say about the Rileys that hasn’t already been said. Kind, supportive, always willing to help out, passionate, generous, but best of all, friends. They are the quintessential volunteers. They are incredibly supportive of Breakthrough T1D through the One Walk, Summer Classic, Tee To Table, Hope Gala, and eight Pixar galas. It would be inconceivable to think of the Norcal Chapter without them. They and all our volunteers are our heart and soul. Cheers Nancy & Rick!” – Frank Bitonte, Development Director, Breakthrough T1D Northern California
Rick & Nancy are inspirational and passionate champions of Breakthrough T1D and we are pleased to honor them at the 2022 Breakthrough T1D Hope Gala.
Thank you and congratulations!
