Breakthrough T1D International and Doug Melton, Ph.D., Harvard HSCRB Medicine. The evening program will include a Northern California Chapter Welcome, Breakthrough T1D International Update by Aaron Kowalski, Ph.D, President & CEO of Breakthrough T1D International and a Research Presentation by Doug Melton, Ph.D., Harvard HSCRB Medicine. Followed by a Q+A.
For over 20 years, Breakthrough T1D has been following and supporting Dr. Doug Melton’s groundbreaking work. A world-renowned expert in cell replacement therapies, and the father of two children living with type 1 diabetes (T1D), Dr. Melton and Breakthrough T1D are united in a shared goal to cure T1D.
The new Breakthrough T1D Center of Excellence at Harvard University, led by Dr. Melton, is focused on developing cures for T1D. Dr. Melton’s team has developed a way to generate a limitless supply of insulin-producing cells that could be transplanted into people with T1D. After transplantation, these cells are expected to restore glucose control, but for this therapy to work, we must develop a way to prevent the immune system from attacking and destroying these transplanted islet cells. Dr. Melton’s team is focused on this challenge and he is excited to share details about this work and address your questions. Via ZOOM.
