About
Our Breakthrough T1D Hike Don’t Spike event for adults on July 12 will plunge us into the cool, shady trails of Chabot Park in the East Bay. This is a moderate ~6 mile, 900’ elevation gain hike that will take us through two different environs. The first half will be along wide fire roads nestled under miles of eucalyptus, conducive to free-ranging T1D dialogue and wandering dogs (this is a pooch-on-leash-friendly hike). After a break near Two Rocks campground, we’ll get a view of Lake Chabot while descending on single track trails that go along and through Grass Valley Creek. This part of the hike, densely lined with live oaks and other native & non-native plants, will loop us back to our starting point in ~3.5 hours. We’ll start at 9:30AM from the Clyde Woolridge Staging Area, which has free parking. Bathrooms are available at the break site campground.
This is the latest in a series of events designed for T1D adults who enjoy trail hikes of ~5-8 miles in the Bay Area with other like-minded T1D adults, and who enjoy the benefits for glucose control that hikes can provide. Before hitting the trail, we’ll share tips on managing T1D in the great outdoors. To just be added to our email list for future events, sign up here. Hope to see you at Hike Don’t Spike!
