Type 1 Diabetes Screening by TrialNet
Family members of people with type 1 diabetes can be screened for risk, free of charge, at the Breakthrough T1D North Florida Chapter Jacksonville One Walk on Saturday, April 7th.
The test is a simple blood draw that can identify autoantibodies that signal an increased risk of type 1 diabetes. These autoantibodies may show up years before symptoms appear. If testing shows you are at increased risk, you can be closely monitored and may be eligible to take part in clinical studies testing ways to slow down or stop disease progression.
Who can be screened? Anyone between the ages of 1 and 45 with a sibling, child or parent with type 1 diabetes; or anyone between the ages of 1 and 20 with a cousin, half-sibling, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, or grandparent with type 1 diabetes.
