Meet Lexi – Breakthrough T1D Greater Dallas Youth Ambassador

My name is Lexi. I am 15 years old and a Sophomore at Guyer High School in Denton, TX. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on April 2nd, 2013. I enjoy sharing my journey and hope to be an inspiration to newly diagnosed kids, or help them find solutions to challenges they may be facing. I have a passion to advocate, educate, and fund raise for a cure. I am Breakthrough T1D Youth Ambassador.

I love being a Breakthrough T1D Youth Ambassador because it has given me the chance to see a side of Breakthrough T1D that I never really experienced before. From volunteering and making phone calls about an upcoming Breakthrough T1D One Walk, to accepting check donations from organizations and companies, and to speaking about what it’s like living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and educating about the signs and symptoms and differences between type 1 and type 2, is my passion. I like to inform people about Breakthrough T1D and the amazing research and advancements that they are working on as well as help to fund raise to find a cure.

Connecting as an Ambassador has exposed me to so many different opportunities to advocate and educate. I am also proud to be a Breakthrough T1D Mentor, helping newly diagnosed children.
I have been given the opportunity to be one of the many faces of T1D. The opportunity to network with so many different people has allowed me to meet professional athletes and hear their stories about how T1D has impacted their lives and how they are doing on their journey, after diagnosis.

Ambassadors are the best group of people I have meet, and some of my closest friends. We are friendly, welcoming and outgoing. Our Ambassador role is important to us. We are dedicated and supportive. Everyone is there to support one another in and outside of Ambassadors activities. Meeting and events are professional, but fun with a very positive atmosphere.
