Floyd’s Partnership with Breakthrough T1D

In 1999, Colorado-based brothers Paul, Rob and Bill O’Brien drew up the plans for a new barbershop concept that would stand out from the rest of the industry, provide an outstanding workplace environment for barbers and hairstylists, and deliver an unbeatable customer experience.

They made the decision to diversify into the hair care industry after researching several business opportunities in both the restaurant and hair care industries. They felt they could have the greatest opportunity for success by taking the experience they had gained from years of operating their concession business and applying it to a unique niche in the highly competitive industry of hair care. The advantages the brothers felt they had for success were their strong operating background, dedication to customer service and their attitude toward the value of their employees to the business.

In February 2001, the first Floyd’s 99 Barbershop opened in downtown Denver, introducing customers to the novel idea of getting a haircut at a reasonable price while having a pretty good time at it.

Partnership Background

Floyd’s 99 Barbershop is a Silver Partner of Breakthrough T1D, raising $250,000+ annually. More than 125 Floyd’s 99 Barbershop locations – corporate owned and franchised – throughout portions of the United States support the company’s value book campaign, where their customers donate $5 to Breakthrough T1D and receive a value book worth $35 in hair cut services and discounts.

Floyd’s 99 Barbershop got involved with Breakthrough T1D in 2012 because of a young woman with T1D whom you will often see in Floyd’s T1D awareness videos, Sarah O’Brien. Sarah is the daughter of Karen and Paul O’Brien, the latter being one of the three founding brothers of Floyd’s 99 Barbershop.

The company’s goal for 2022 is to raise $350,000 bringing their total financial impact on Breakthrough T1D to $2 million! This year marks Floyd’s 10th year of support.
