Each day she is determined to live the best life possible. Audrey is joining us in telling her story at the 51<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">st<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Promise Gala because it is important to her that each individual living with T1D has access to the same care she had. She aspires for a future where no one will have to live through this life-threatening autoimmune disease.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ella Virkler <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-10198\" src=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/nyc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/157\/2024\/10\/Picture2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"170\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/nyc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/157\/2024\/10\/Picture2.jpg 497w, https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/nyc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/157\/2024\/10\/Picture2-279x300.jpg 279w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 170px) 100vw, 170px\" \/><br \/>\n<\/strong><span data-contrast=\"auto\">12 years ago, Ella received her diagnosis at 10 years old and she has continued flourishing ever since. Even before joining us at the Gala, she\u2019s used her voice to advocate for research funding and policies that support affordable access to T1D management tools and met with members of Congress and federal decisionmakers at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cc.breakthrought1d.org\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Children\u2019s Congress<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Ella also interned at the Greater New York Metro Chapter, along with her 6-year-old diabetic alert dog named Magpie, this past summer to experience fundraising firsthand, shortly after graduating from Wake Forest University.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Taylor Kearns<\/strong><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"><strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-10196\" src=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/nyc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/157\/2024\/10\/Picture1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"137\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/nyc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/157\/2024\/10\/Picture1.jpg 368w, https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/nyc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/157\/2024\/10\/Picture1-199x300.jpg 199w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 137px) 100vw, 137px\" \/><\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Diagnosed at 5 years old, 40 years ago, Taylor wants to raise funds to support critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people\u2019s lives. Taylor showcases her resilience by running marathons in support of the T1D community.
