For Lisa Lascher, volunteering with Breakthrough T1D is deeply personal\u2014it is rooted in family, resilience, and a commitment to change the future of type 1 diabetes (T1D).<\/p>\n

As an advocate and leader, Lisa\u2019s connection to T1D spans generations. Her father has lived with T1D for decades, and in 2020, her son Max was diagnosed. What could have been an overwhelming chapter became a turning point\u2014one that inspired Lisa to channel her family\u2019s experience into meaningful action.

\nSince then, Lisa has become a dedicated and influential member of the Breakthrough T1D community. Lisa serves on the New York City Chapter Board, contributes to both the Walk and Gala committees, and leads the NYC parent support group\u2014creating space for families to connect, learn, and feel supported. Through leadership, fundraising, and advocacy, Lisa plays a vital role in advancing the organization\u2019s mission and strengthening its community.<\/p>\n

One of Lisa\u2019s most meaningful milestones has been stepping outside of the comfort zone to run a first marathon with the Breakthrough T1D NYC Marathon team. That achievement reflects not only determination, but also the power of purpose. Volunteering has also become a shared family journey\u2014Lisa has had the opportunity to involve family members in fundraising events, and witnessing Max grow into an advocate has made the work even more impactful.<\/p>\n

Lisa\u2019s inspiration is simple yet powerful: family. Motivated by a parent\u2019s hope and a child\u2019s future, Lisa is committed to ensuring that families facing a T1D diagnosis have better tools, stronger support systems, and ultimately, access to a cure.<\/p>\n

Lisa\u2019s advice to others: There is a place for everyone in this community.
