The Joslin Medalists are people who have completed 50 years or more with type 1 diabetes, and who have been awarded a medal for that accomplishment. There are only about 1,100 surviving Joslin medalists, although there may be others who have survived type 1 diabetes for 50 years. There are also 75 and 80 year medals. If you know any long term type 1 diabetics in any part of the world, particularly if they are in the western US, please have them attend this meeting. Anyone who wishes to attend is welcome, although seating is limited and Joslin medalists will be given priority. Medical professionals and Breakthrough T1D staff are also welcome.
The Joslin Medalist Study has been funded by Breakthrough T1D, NIH, and private donations. Many study results will be presented at this meeting by Dr. George King, the principal investigator of the Joslin Medalist Study and others. Many of the results are very exciting! The medalists are providing clues to a cure through studies of their survival.
This conference is for 50-year Medalists, their caregivers and families, and anyone interested in the long-term effects of Type 1 diabetes, whether a medalist yet, or not.
