This outing is a unique experience, with every foursome teamed up with a local sports celebrity. This annual event supports Breakthrough T1D and the Max McGee Center for Juvenile Diabetes Research at Children\u2019s Wisconsin. This year\u2019s featured celebrity was Paul Molitor is an American former Major League Baseball player and manager of the Minnesota Twins, who is in the Baseball Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n<p>On November 17, checks were presented to representatives from Breakthrough T1D and Children\u2019s Wisconsin for the money raised at the 2022 Tee Up Fore the Cure event.\u00a0The total given was a record-breaking $230,000 to support T1D research! Tee Up Fore the Cure also achieved a milestone of raising over $1 million for T1D research since the event was started in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>Funds will be used at the McGee Center to purchase an upgraded Keyence Microscope and a new ultracold freezer needed for research. Funds for Breakthrough T1D will go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/impact\/research\/centers-of-excellence\/new-england\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New England Center of Excellence<\/a> where three research projects are underway with the focus on curing T1D.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About Tee Up Fore the Cure<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><em>Diabetes research is a cause close to the heart of the Leef family and ITU AbsorbTech. George L. Leef, ITU AbsorbTech\u2019s second-generation president, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1929, shortly after the discovery of insulin. With the help of exercise and diet management, George lived a full life with the aid of hundreds of thousands of blood checks and shots. He suffered from diabetic neuropathy for years before passing away in 2007.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>During his lifetime he generously gave to diabetes research. He was a kind and devoted family man who gave so much to all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
