A Message from Rachel Rojek:

Breakthrough T1D has really changed my life! I am so happy my husband and I became involved over three years ago. I am currently an Outreach Ambassador Chair and I also volunteer with community outreach with monthly in person support groups for the newly diagnosed. These roles have brought so much purpose and joy into my life.

Breakthrough T1D is an amazing organization who has helped pave the way for new advancements and technologies to help make managing this disease easier, however a cure is still needed. I am dedicated and driven to create successful fundraisers to help create a world without T1D. I am a stay at home mom living with T1D for 31 years.

I remember at age 8 I started feeling extremely tired, always thirsty, and losing weight very quickly. When my mom took me to my pediatrician I was down to 37 lbs. After a quick urine test my doctors sent me directly to what is now known as Oshei Children’s Hospital where I was officially diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. I was admitted quickly and stayed for 10 days with both my parents never leaving my side. The diagnosis changed not only my life but my entire family. As an 8 year old child I quickly realized the severity of this diagnosis and the severe consequences of this disease.

My life is amazing, I have a loving and supportive husband, Justin Rojek, who has decided to join T1D Breakthrough to help find a cure for this disease. I have three amazing children who have learned at an early age how to help me navigate the day to day struggles of this disease. I am eager to see what the future holds and am hopeful we can turn type 1 into type none!
