For nearly three decades, Deanna Diescher has turned a simple act of compassion into a lifelong mission with Breakthrough T1D<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Her journey began in 1998 after learning that a coworker\u2019s nephew had been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes<\/a> (T1D). Wanting to help, she co-founded a corporate Walk team and quickly found meaningful ways to get involved\u2014selling cookies, organizing raffles, and supporting events. What started as a way to give back soon became something much deeper.<\/p>\n

\u201cBreakthrough T1D became my passion, and their mission became mine,\u201d Deanna shared.<\/p>\n

Over the years, that passion has translated into extraordinary impact. Since 2002, she has served as a dedicated committee member for the longstanding \u201cHope for a Cure Gala,\u201d including taking on the role of Auction Chair and serving on the Board of Directors as Secretary. Her leadership has helped drive fundraising efforts that support research, advocacy, and community programs.<\/p>\n

Deanna\u2019s commitment extends far beyond formal roles. From volunteering at major events like Walks<\/a>, Galas, Community Summits, and Advocacy Days, to creatively raising funds through local events like concerts and festivals, she has consistently found ways to make a difference. At one point, her volunteer team raised over $6,000 at a single community event\u2014just one example of her ingenuity and dedication.<\/p>\n

But for Deanna, the impact of volunteering isn\u2019t measured in dollars alone.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing involved has made a significant difference in my life. I\u2019ve met incredible children who have forever touched my heart and continue to motivate me,\u201d she said. \u201cThe Schreiner family has become family to us, and through them, I\u2019ve experienced firsthand the realities of T1D\u2014the good, the bad, and the frightening. This disease affects not just those diagnosed, but everyone who loves them.\u201d<\/p>\n

That connection fuels her unwavering commitment to the cause. Having promised to stay involved until a cure is found, Deanna continues to show up year after year\u2014driven by the belief that everyone has a role to play.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey show that it truly takes a village,\u201d she said. \u201cThese experiences create powerful connections, empower leaders, and turn hope into real, life-changing progress.\u201d<\/p>\n

She is also a strong advocate for awareness, emphasizing one message above all: insulin is life-sustaining, but it is not a cure<\/a>. Increasing public understanding remains a critical part of the mission.
\nAfter more than 25 years of volunteerism, Deanna\u2019s dedication stands as a testament to the power of community, compassion, and persistence.
