Today, we&#8217;re proud to highlight two of our Clinical Trials Education Volunteers who are making a real difference in the lives of patients and families by helping them understand the vital role of research in advancing care.<\/p>\n<h4>Meet Our Volunteers<\/h4>\n<h4><u>Dr. Gina Leckie, Western Pennsylvania Volunteer<\/u><u><\/u><\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/westernpawestva\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/151\/2025\/07\/Gina-Leckie-Headshot.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-8354 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/westernpawestva\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/151\/2025\/07\/Gina-Leckie-Headshot.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"145\" height=\"193\" \/><\/a>Dr. Gina Leckie joined her father, uncle, daughter, and mother-in-law as a Type 1 Diabetic in her 30s. Having a strong family history with Type 1, she has been connected to the community, research, and technology since childhood. The effects of blood glucose control has always interested Dr. Leckie, whose doctoral thesis at the University of Pittsburgh investigated the effects of HbA1c on brain health and memory in older adults. As a scientist and current Professor of Psychology, Neuroscience, and Nursing at Washington and Jefferson College, Dr. Leckie has an innate interest in new clinical trials, diabetes tech, and the quest for a cure. She is thrilled to use her background to help the Breakthrough T1D community learn of exciting advancements in the prevention, treatment, and ultimately cure for T1D.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><u>Jennifer Lieb, Central Pennsylvania Volunteer<\/u><\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/westernpawestva\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/151\/2025\/07\/Jennifer-Lieb-Headshot-e1753891691797.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8356  alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/westernpawestva\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/151\/2025\/07\/Jennifer-Lieb-Headshot-e1753891691797-269x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"175\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/westernpawestva\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/151\/2025\/07\/Jennifer-Lieb-Headshot-e1753891691797-269x300.jpg 269w, https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/westernpawestva\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/151\/2025\/07\/Jennifer-Lieb-Headshot-e1753891691797.jpg 765w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 175px) 100vw, 175px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jennifer Lieb is proud to serve as a Clinical Trials Education Volunteer with Breakthrough T1D. In this role, she is committed to helping individuals and families navigate clinical trial opportunities that may be right for them; opportunities that also play a vital role in advancing research and improving the lives of everyone affected by T1D. This work is especially meaningful to Jennifer, as her son was diagnosed 8 years ago at age 9.
