More information from Jack Gerstmeier:
I am a SCTP (Poplar Creek Claybusters) and SASP (Lake Country Action Shooters) member and a type 1 diabetic. I was diagnosed with T1D 6 years ago at the age of 10½. Not only was my life turned upside down but so was our family’s. Soon after being diagnosed, my parents reached out to Breakthrough T1D. Breakthrough T1D has given me/us a place to connect with other T1D kids and families. They have also given us hope for the future with advancements in easing the daily struggles of T1D as well as hope for a cure.
Because of Breakthrough T1D, the FDA approved the artificial pancreas system in fall of 2016. I received my device on August 3, 2017. This device has eased my daily burden of T1D and in the first 8 weeks lowered my A1c from 8.6 to 7.5. This was absolutely remarkable. This is just one of many advancements that Breakthrough T1D is working on for all those who struggle with T1D. Last year the SSUSA.org did an article on me about shooting and living with type one. I have included a link to the article: https://www.ssusa.org/articles/2018/5/20/diabetes-didn-t-stop-this-junior-trapshooter-from-competing/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=insider&utm_campaign=0518.
My family is hosting an Ammo and Insulin Charity Shoot at Boxhorn Gun Club on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019. After being diagnosed I took interest in trap shooting. I have now been shooting trap, pistol and rifle competitively for the last 5 years. We have room to host approximately 400-450 shooters that day from southeastern Wisconsin.
