The children, ages 4-17, represent all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The delegates in Breakthrough T1D\u2019s Children\u2019s Congress enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help Members of Congress understand what life with T1D is like and why research to fund life-changing therapies until a cure can be found is so critical. They speak up on behalf of the millions of people living with T1D and the families and friends who love them.<\/p>\n<p>Meet the Wisconsin delegates:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/southeastwi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/177\/2023\/06\/Meredith.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8238 size-thumbnail alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/southeastwi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/177\/2023\/06\/Meredith-200x130.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"130\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/cc.jdrf.org\/delegates\/meredith-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meredith, 17<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Meredith is proud to use her voice to raise awareness about T1D. For many years, she has participated in Breakthrough T1D One Walk, volunteered at the Breakthrough T1D Ride to Cure Diabetes, met with Members of Congress as an Advocate, and serves as a Breakthrough T1D Youth Ambassador. Meredith also planned a Diabetes Awareness Week at her school and has given speeches about T1D to Lions Foundations all over Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/southeastwi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/177\/2023\/06\/Mira.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8239 size-thumbnail alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/southeastwi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/177\/2023\/06\/Mira-200x130.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"130\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/cc.jdrf.org\/delegates\/mira\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mira, 16<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mira is active in clubs at school including Key Club, DECA, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and participates in cross country. Mira also enjoys volunteering with younger children at her church, traveling, reading, and serving as a Breakthrough T1D Youth Ambassador. Mira would like to attend college and sees herself doing something related to science and healthcare, which was inspired by her T1D and her desire to impact the T1D community.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/southeastwi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/177\/2023\/06\/Talon.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8241 size-thumbnail alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/southeastwi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/177\/2023\/06\/Talon-200x130.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"130\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/cc.jdrf.org\/delegates\/talon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Talon, 13<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Shortly after his T1D diagnosis, Talon got a diabetic alert dog named Hero and was interviewed on local news channels about life with T1D and Hero. Since then, he has done many presentations about T1D at Breakthrough T1D Promise to Remember Me meetings, at his school, Girl Scout meetings, and local Lions Club events. Talon also has a TikTok account with his mom where they share videos and answer questions about T1D. Talon completed his first Breakthrough T1D Ride last December and hopes it\u2019s his first of many!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/southeastwi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/177\/2023\/06\/Silvia.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8240 size-thumbnail alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.breakthrought1d.org\/southeastwi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/177\/2023\/06\/Silvia-200x130.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"130\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/cc.jdrf.org\/delegates\/silvia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Silvia, 9<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you ask Silvia what they look forward to, they\u2019ll be quick to answer \u201cchanging the world\u201d and at age 9, they\u2019re well on their way to doing just that! Silvia is no stranger to educating people about T1D.
